Happy DA Birthday - 3 years!

Thu Aug 17, 2006, 12:49 PM
Yeah, I'm not very active anymore. But I'm still here...

So...I'm going to be a senior in high school this year. That means that I'll be applying to colleges...

Well, I'm 95% sure that I'll be applying Early Decision to the University of Pennsylvania. There's still the 5% that tells me that I'm just wasting my time in applying there...But yeah, hopefully I'll find out the good news in December - wish me luck! *crosses fingers*

Anyways, I'm still around. If anyone wants to talk, my AIM screenname is Koukris, my MSN is kfsun@klht.org and my email is Koukris17@yahoo.com.

Cheers to another year!

Wow...it's been a long while...

Yeah, like the title says. I haven't updated this baby in about 4 months. So much has happened since August 17th. I've changed in so many ways...I feel so much more mature (although I'm really not heehee). I just need to write, so no need for anyone to really read this! ^^; Well...I took the PSAT's and did so much better on the math section than I ever imagined. Critical reading and writing sections were not so hot...yeah...But I am in the 94th percentile anyways. Pretty frickin' sweet if you ask me and quite an improvement from sophomore year. :D

I guess no one really cares, but I've always been carefree and laid-back, particularly about school. Quite different from most Asians. But now, I've really looked at myself. From the way I'm crusing along, I'll probably get into a decent college and live happily ever after. However, that is not the way the parents want it. (aka HARVARD! HARVARD! HARVARD! YALE! YALE! YALE!) But in terms of Asian parents, they really aren't that bad. In fact, I can go as far to say as that they will be happy no matter where I go - rather it is Harvard or community college. That's what strikes me the most - it is me that wants to go these schools and not my parents so much. So I realize that I have two choices: 1.) go along with my happy-go-lucky, carefree self and get accepted to a top 25 college or 2.) change my work ethic and get into a top 10 college. Of course, the decision might seem like an easy one to make. Right...like this is no big deal. This is such an easy decision! NO. It is not.

My whole life is based around this Henry David Thoreau quote: "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." This is me. I can't imagine ever conforming into the basic Asian stereotype of get into the best college, get a job in i-banking or whatever. In fact, I've learned that most people who do that end up hating their lives. Every single moment of it. Personally, I can't imagine that. I'm having fun right now and I want to have fun in college and I want to have fun working. You'll find these are reasons enough to remain who I am. But I want to get into a good school. I know that I am just as competitive and qualified as everyone else who gets into Harvard or Princeton or Yale. But right now, because of my nature, I am not even in the running because I simply don't care. But I know that I deserve to be in the race, and I know that I have the potential and motivation to make it to the top. This is what tears at me - knowing that I have the ability to get into a great school and not taking that opportunity and possibly screwing up my whole life. In the end, whether I am happy or not, my natural competitiveness takes over me. I promised I would wait into the New Year to announce to myself my final decision. But right now, I have more than enough conviction.

My early New Years resolution: I will get into the best damn college possible.

Good News Everyone!

I hope that next year will be as successful as this year! I've grown so much since I've first started out as a timid freshman entering high school. Now, I'm a junior getting ready for college...yikes! Well, wish me luck for the following years to come! Luv ya all...:blowkiss:

A GREAT BIG  AND :blowkiss: TO EVERYONE!!!! I  you guys!!!!

And these are the people that started it all. And now, I have an apology to make. I'm sorry for everyone that I lost touch with during these months. Without these people, I wouldn't have become the person that I am today. Thank you and sorry...I hope we can become friends again.
